The Kalikalos living learning centre in Pelion, Greece is dedicated to demonstrating the power of authentic community as a vehicle for building a new holistic world of peace, partnership and sustainability. We offer an educational programme of workshops, retreats, workcamps, conferences and living-in-community guest weeks in the summer months. Our income derives from these week-long programmes which include healing (self, society & planet), creative arts, relationship dynamics, and Self-enquiry.
We are a community-based Centre providing guests and workshop participants practical experience in applying holistic values to everyday life in such a way as to demonstrate how living these values fosters a new culture of nonviolence, deep democracy, and personal fulfillment.
Our mission is primarily educational: holistic education, which we teach through action learning. We operate as a temporary but authentic ecovillage, sharing all the values of the international ecovillage movement, of which we are a member. The staff of Kalikalos is made up entirely of volunteers who come for periods ranging from 2 to 16 weeks.
This Centre derives its inspiration from the Findhorn international spiritual community in northern Scotland and shares many of the same orienting attitudes, vision and core concepts. We employ many processes derived from Findhorn, e.g., attuning with spirit, co-creation with nature, focalisation and the Way of Council. We place a strong emphasis on showing that everyday work can be “love in action”.
Kalikalos' daily Council circle is the lifeblood of the community, the central thread that ties everything together and allows an ever changing group to maintain continuity of vision, purpose and practice. In Council we make our decisions, share our joys and pains, solve our problems—emotional and practical--and generate the kind of authentic community that invites all who come to Kalikalos to live their unique truth and make it count toward implementing a new and sustainable holistic world view.
